Sustainable smart badges hit zero-landfill goals

Basetracking’s EcoBadge 2.0 introduces biodegradable substrates, modular electronics and reusable clips—meeting corporate ESG targets while preserving advanced RFID functionality.

Materials innovation

The EcoBadge core is made from PLA bioplastic with embedded ferrites, engineered for industrial composting alongside food waste. RFID modules snap in and out, allowing organisers to refurbish electronics for subsequent events.

Packaging is replaced with sealable return sleeves; attendees drop used badges at exit kiosks, triggering deposit refunds or donations.

Sustainability KPIs

  • • 96% material recovery rate within five days post-event.
  • • 58% reduction in overall badge lifecycle emissions year-on-year.
  • • Verified zero-landfill outcome certified by third-party auditors.

Operational checklist

  1. Define badge return incentives (charity donation, loyalty points, merchandise).
  2. Deploy Basetracking kiosks with RFID readers to record returns and deactivate credentials.
  3. Audit sensors to ensure tamper evidence and reuse readiness.
  4. Coordinate composting or recycling partners with chain-of-custody documentation.

Customer spotlight

A sustainability-focused fintech summit deployed 30,000 EcoBadge units, diverting 1.2 tonnes of traditional PVC from landfill. Attendees praised the simplified return workflow and transparent ESG reporting.
