Architecture overview
Basetracking deploys 5G radio units with network slicing dedicated to access control. RFID controllers publish MQTT events through the 5G core, which then streams into the Basetracking event mesh and observability pipeline.
The result: consistent performance even in venues where Wi-Fi is saturated by media crews or attendee devices.
Benefits unlocked
- Zero-touch failover: If fibre links falter, 5G backhaul keeps checkpoints online without manual intervention.
- Unified telemetry: Video analytics, RFID reads and visitor apps share a low-latency bus for correlation.
- Rapid deployment: Temporary events can spin up secure connectivity in under 48 hours.
Implementation steps
- Design RF plan and acquire spectrum (shared or licensed) with telecom partners.
- Install edge cloud (UPF + control plane) with Basetracking’s security hardening.
- Onboard RFID controllers and cameras via secure SIM/eSIM credentials.
- Instrument monitoring dashboards with SLA alerts for throughput and packet loss.
Customer snapshot
A global automotive expo reduced “unknown” badge reads by 87% after migrating to 5G backhaul. Security teams now react to anomalies within 20 seconds, compared with over two minutes on Wi-Fi-only infrastructure.
